St Vincent De Paul – November 2020

St Vincent De Paul

Star of the Sea Conference

Christmas is a time for giving, for sharing and helping. It is also a time when people are in great difficulty and this means that the pressure on SVP to respond to their needs is much greater. SVP is a voluntary community organisation which is financed by the community. The members in our conference assess families and individuals needs and pass on your support to them.

It is with great urgency that we write to you during these challenging times as Christmas approaches. Financially 2020 has been a disaster for Star of the Sea, our monthly church collections stopped in March and all fundraising events by ourselves and others had to be cancelled. Thankfully a number of benefactors came to our aid and this helped us to continue with our work.

The Christmas hampers which have been so welcome to more than 150 families cannot be organised this year. The €12,000 worth of food so generously donated through the schools and collected at Dunnes Stores by the Lions Club will have to be replaced by vouchers as far as possible

Star of the Sea has a long history of assisting people with a need and the growth in population in Laytown/Bettystown/Mornington/Donnacarney has resulted in a much greater demand for help in recent times. Families need food, clothes, school/college expenses, households with young children can have many needs, a breadwinner on low wages can be in difficulty, our winter fuel scheme helps to keep the older people warm and many families experience a temporary difficulty and need some short term help.

St Vincent De Paul locally appeal to you to help us in these difficult times. A cash donation or food voucher of any value for any supermarket, Pennies or a butcher would be an excellent help. You may give your donation to any member of SVP locally or contact any of the officers listed to arrange a donation or have a query answered.

“Let us put charity into practice this year and go out and assist those who are poor.”

Thank you for your unstinting support and with your continued help we will cater for the need of people in our community with dignity and respect.
