Laytown Train Station to get New Lift
Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, has welcomed news that a brand new heavy duty lift will be installed in Laytown Train Station later this year.
“The news has been announced as part of Iarnrod Eireann’s 2021 Rail Station Lift and Escalator Replacement and Renewal Programme.
“The works have been targeted for commencement in Q3 of 2021 with a 7 week timeline for completion.
“Separately, Iarnrod Eireann have confirmed that planning permission has been sought for a new lift at the Gormanston Train station.
“People with reduced mobility will be advised by Iarnrod Eireann of alternative arrangements in advance of the works taking place.
“This is positive news for East Meath residents who have mobility issues, this will ensure that greater and more reliable access is provided in the station for years to come.”
Boyne Valley Camino
Drogheda’s Boyne Valley Camino has been approved €51,750 under the Outdoor Recreation Scheme to fund a trail extension, provision of new signage and new message boards to help Camino walkers.
The Camino has been a great success since it’s launch in 2019, the 25km loop that starts and ends in Drogheda has been a popular activity for walkers from every corner of the globe and has encouraged a huge number of locals to get out and get walking.
ETSS site confirmation
Agreement in principle has been reached to acquire a site for the permanent location of Drogheda Education Together Secondary School. This agreement is subject to contract and conveyancing. The location of the permanent site will incorporate the current temporary site at Mill Road, Drogheda at which the school is currently located. Due to commercial sensitivities it is not possible to provide further information at this time.
It is envisaged that the permanent accommodation for the school will be delivered under the Department’s Design & Build programme. Reaching agreement in principle in relation to the acquisition of the site is a key milestone for the delivery of the permanent accommodation.
Given that the permanent site will be circa. 11 acres in size, and now incorporates the school’s current temporary location at Mill Road, it is no longer necessary to proceed with the proposed interim relocation of the school to the ETB owned site at Rathmullen Road, Drogheda (same location as St. Oliver’s Community College).
The Department will be liaising with Educate Together in relation to interim accommodation requirements at the school’s current location pending the provision of the new permanent school building.
LMETB Improvement Works
Over €500k will be made available to the Louth and Meath Education Training Board for improvement works through capital funding as part of Project 2040. §
