Cilles A.C. – May 2021

Well after what seems like an unimaginable length of time things are suddenly looking up! We were hopeful that everything would start-up again but you daren’t believe it until it happens. We’ll still be operating under Covid-19 restrictions but it’s all a shift in the right direction, fingers crossed for a wonderful Summer of outdoor training and some good weather.

Juvenile training

Our older juveniles are back out training in Seafield on Mon/Wed nights. We’ve had a great response from our athletes and parents and everyone is just delighted to be back training together.

The 8 to 12 age group recommenced training on Saturday mornings at Seafield, they’re such an enthusiastic gang.

Our ‘Littles Cilles’ group will restart on Sunday afternoons at the all weather pitch in East Meath United.

Thank you!

Our wonderful coaches deserve high praise for their hard work and flexibility in being ready to adapt to all the changes necessary to create the right environment to get the groups back training safely. Thank you to our committee who has been working away in the back ground to ensure that we can pick up where we left off.

Senior training

Our adults will be returning to club training in pods of 15 on May 11th, we’ll be meeting at the usual spot in the Tescos carpark, Bettystown, 7.30pm

Distance league and virtual runs

While we were waiting for the resumption of training, we engaged in a distance league to keep everyone sane. Teams of 4 competed for points per kilometre run/walk/cycle and even the odd sea swim. The competition was ferocious! Especially as there was one4 all vouchers for the league winners. In the end Team Runnerbeans comprising of Lynsey Ryder, Caroline Conroy, Siobhan Cronin and Clare Moore were victorious, well done ladies. Nicole Ludden literally ran away with the individual prize. We had a weekly challenge, run/walk 5km every day for the week to be entered in a draw for a voucher from a local business. Pictured is a very happy Eimear with her voucher for Ellies ice-cream.

There’s plenty of action on the virtual runs at the moment. The Dundalk Dkit 10k is always a popular run with the club and this year was no exception with lots of club runners taking part. The Cystic Fibrosis 10k, a cause we’re particularly close to has everyone out pounding the pavements. Well done to all who took part.

Couch to 5k

Restrictions permitting we intend to host a couch to 5k program in September. This may suit some existing members as a way to get back into it with a group and hopefully we’ll see lots of new faces.

So it’s great to be getting back to some normality, hopefully I’ll be telling you about our exploits out and about in competition in the near future.
