Laytown Tidy Towns – May 2021

We were delighted to be joined at the beginning of April by two new volunteers, Roisin and John from Inse Bay. They quickly showed their worth by joining in clearing the weeds from the paths and edgings of the car park near Aldi. Sadly there were no “before” pictures taken, but the photos taken afterwards speak for themselves! Anyone who uses this area for walks or parking will know how much work has been done to clear it so well!

Having refreshed the planters on the promenade we bought some new plants for them which we think brings a much needed bit of colour to them, and brightens up the area!

We then turned our attention to the recently refurbished boat flowerbed which was being completely overwhelmed by the Pampas type plants in it. We removed the largest one and replanted it on the approach road near the bee hotel! We also removed the other one in order to divide it into smaller plants one of which we replanted in the boat, having first refreshed the soil with compost.

Before! During! After!

Our next project is to plant a wildflower bed at the back of the new bottlebank site. This will be done on Saturday 1st May, weather permitting of course! We will also tidy up the flowerpots beside the railway bridge.

We now have enough volunteers that while some are working on flowerbeds, others doing edgings, and the rest work tirelessly picking litter on the beach and throughout the village. Of course we always welcome new volunteers both for their actual input and for their new ideas! So please feel free to join in any Saturday morning, meeting as always at The Coast Tavern at 10am.
