Preventing Forest Fires in Meath

Meath County Council in collaboration with Coillte, the custodians of 440,000 hectares of forests, have a new video to help people enjoy forestry areas safely. The video can be viewed at – https://youtu.be/a7recKHsPSI

Littering can lead to land-based wildfires – these can take the form of forest, gorse and bog fires or in severe cases a combination of all three. Over 120 acres of forest and bog were destroyed in Meath in 2018 fires. Simple measures such as not lighting fires in particular barbecues in or near woodland areas and the proper extinguishment of cigarettes and other smoking material will help everyone enjoy the natural environment. Illegal waste dumping also provides fuel for fires. Please report any suspicious activity to Meath County Council.  Email environment@meathcoco.ie or call 046 9097200.
