Cille’s A.C. – August 2021

What a month we’ve had, competition has returned and the juveniles of Cilles AC have been out in force giving it there all. Everyone who took part has shown great enthusiasm and determination to get back to competing after the long layoff. They’ve all thoroughly enjoyed their experiences and won a few medals along the way!

National championship gold for Holly Brennan

Holly Brennan claimed the National Junior 3000m title in Santry late in June. The 3000m is one of the most prestigious of events for Junior distance athletes. Holly took the initiative at the start and led the race through to the finish. It is a well deserved Gold Medal for Holly as she has put so much time and effort into her preparations. We are all really proud of Holly, she is an incredibly dedicated athlete.

Well done from all at Cilles AC.

Aaron Smith wins Irish Mountain running trials

Congrats to Aaron Smith who finished in first place in the Irish Mountain Running Trials race on July 17th. Aaron told us…

“The race was in glendalough, the first K went off in 3.45 so was very fast for an uphill race, after that Km I was by myself for the rest of the race, once I reached the top I knew I had a big lead but pushed on the downhill to finish in 28.58 for 6.7k race with 500m elevation, the runner in second finished in 33.50 the race qualified me for the British and Irish mountain running championships in Northern Ireland on the 4th of September”. Well done Aaron, we’re looking forward to the September run, best of luck.

Little Cilles at Meath Track and field championships

Cilles AC were well represented on the last weekend in June at the Meath track & field Championships. It was fantastic to see children from our Little Athletics groups out in the Cilles colours, running and jumping. Huge congratulations to Leo Matthews, Eli Sullivan and Abigail Stafford who took part.

Leo ran in the U-9 60 and 300 metres finishing an impressive 7th in a field of 16 in the 300M. Eli ran in the 500M doing brilliant to come in 3rd position. Abigail put in a great effort in the U-10 Long Jump.

They can be really proud of themselves for taking part and giving it a go in what was their first time to take part in competition.
