St. Colmcilles G.A.A. – August 2021

We are well and truly up and running now and wow what a busy month we have had. Here’s a look back to a very busy July and what promises to be an exciting august

Ladies Surge To Semi Final

Our Division 2 ladies have had an impressive month and sit joint top of the league with an experienced Dee Rangers. A semi final awaits now and we will go into that with hopes high of a second league final in 5 years. The last time we were in the league final in 2016 we went on to win the Championship …. Could history be repeating itself ? We certainly hope so!

Our Division 4 ladies have also been as impressive their more experienced squad mates. A slow start at the start of the campaign has been met with an hugely impressive run that saw us claim some very impressive results but in the end we just narrowly missed out on the semi. We cannot wait for the Championship to start !!

Win A Garden Room- Help Us Achieve Our Dreams

Our infrastructure fundraiser for 2021 is a really exciting opportunity to win a Garden Room!! What’s a Garden Room? Well it can be literally whatever you want it to be. With so many people now working at home it can be an office, it can be a lady’s chill space or the famous man cave, how about a home gym or a dance studio, a guest bedroom or a granny flat. The possibilities are truly endless.

And all that can be yours – for €20!! We have partnered with the leading brand in this space – Garden Rooms- to bring you the chance to win one of these amazing rooms – without doubt the best in the market.

Tickets can be purchased at www.winagardenroom.ie and will shortly be distributed to all teams. Every cent raised goes towards our infrastructure projects – the main objective of which is to acquire and develop new pitches.

First Silverware Of 2021

Well done to the u15 boys who claimed our first silverware of this our 50th anniversary year. The Premier 1 team took the silverware beating Dunboyne 6-8 to 2-8 in an exciting final at Pairc Tailteann. Well done lads!

Leinster Title Success

A huge well done to Luke, Godfrey, Sean and Liam who were part of the Meath minor side who won the 2020 Leinster title in early July. This was a narrow win over a strong Offaly side and it was a late goal from our very own Liam Stafford that was the decisive score and Liam also made history as his dad, Joe was part of the Meath minor side of 1985 that also won the Championship – quite the story.

The 2021 Meath minor side have also made memories qualifying for the 2021 Leinster Final with a good win over Louth. In that final they will face Dublin. We wish our 7 panel members – Eoin, Luke, Eoghan, Christian, Danny and Oisin the very best in the final. A great achievement for them and the club

Congrats Coaimhe, Ella and Sadhbh on making the Meath u14 panel

Men’s Championships Up And Running

The draws for the senior men’s championship has been made and will see us face Ballinabrackey, Curraha and Na Fianna but for Premier 2, 5 and 8 teams the action had commenced. The opening weekend wasn’t a successful one as we went down narrowly to Ratoath, Rathkenny and O Mahonys respectively but we bounced back in some style winning away to Na Fianna and Summerhill in Premier 2 and 5. In Premier 8, Rataoth conceded the points. Frustratingly Rd3 is on the bank holiday weekend and all teams across the county are likely to be short but hopefully we can keep our good run going

Keep Up To Date

To keep up with all things St Colmcilles you should follow us on our social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We feature regular interviews from our games which are proving very popular. Our weekly Podcast is also proving very popular and a great way to keep up to date and hear more from some of the personalities across the club. To date we have featured Daragh Kelly of DK Sports, Dens Collins – author of the wonderful publication charting the early years of GAA in East Meath and Ladies Football legend – Anne Byrne. Next up is former Ireland, Munster and Leinster Rugby legend Niall Ronan- of course Niall’s biggest success is winning the Meath and Leinster Intermediate titles with St Colmcilles !!

Hurlers Rising

It has also been a July to remember for the Saints hurlers. The u15 Division 3 boys are top of the league whistle u13 boys are flying high and looking good for the knock outs. Good luck all in the weeks ahead
