The Stamullen Roundup – October 2021

By Grace Tierney

The East Meath Hospice Association were delighted to resume their famous Coffee Morning on the 23rd of September at Whyte’s of Stamullen (and Reddans & the Lime Kiln) to raise funds to provide services for people with a cancer diagnosis. East Meath Hospice Association are a registered charity run by volunteers and all funds raised locally are spent locally. If you missed the event you can also text to donate, all you have to do is Text COFFEE to 50300 to donate €4. Bewley’s Big Coffee Morning Social for Hospice will receive a minimum of €3.60.

Franciscan College Gormanston recently welcomed back 550 students. They’re celebrating their achievement of a Green Flag, the new fountains for refilling students’ water bottles, the resumption of girls GAA training, the lunchtime walking club, and the debating club and looking forward to more in-school activities resuming soon, in line with restrictions and guidelines. The new school building is still making progress in the planning and design phase. The target date for its opening is now September 2025 when the school will have capacity for a thousand local students.

The staff want to thank the locals and parents who helped one morning this week when one of the first year students was involved in a traffic accident on the Stamullen Road. Thankfully, after a trip to hospital, they are OK. The road, as many locals will be aware, is very busy with walkers and cyclists, especially at school drop-off and collection times. Close attention and consideration for other road users is needed there and on all our local roads.
