Contracts Signed for New DART Battery Electric Carriages for Drogheda – O’Dowd
Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd, has welcomed news that Iarnrod Eireann have now signed the contract for the new DART Battery Electric Carriages..
O’Dowd said “This is huge news for East Meath and Drogheda commuters, this 750 carriage agreement will include an initial 95-carriage order that will include the battery-electric DART fleet which will be deployed on Drogheda to Dublin Northern Commuter line, these new units will transform rail travel for commuters coming in and out of this area.
“The initial order will be delivered in 2024 and will allow DART services to commence in the Drogheda and East Meath area well ahead of electrification. The Drogheda station will also provide fast charging points for the hybrid fleet.
“This will also now bring our campaign to reduce commuter costs closer to realization as this more sustainable and less costly fleet must also now encourage more people to get off the motorways and get on the DART.” §
