Donacarney Girls’ School Réalt na Mara – December 2021

Lots of Christmas Spirit in Donacarney
Team Hope Christmas Shoebox Appeal
We had a fantastic response to our shoebox appeal this year as we were unable to do it last Christmas. Well done to all the families who took time to fill up the shoe boxes full of gifts for children overseas who are not as fortunate as we are. It is wonderful to see such kindness in our young children and to encourage empathy at a young age. Go híontach ar fad a chailíní!

Donacarney Playgroup Visit Big School
We were delighted to welcome Helena, her team and all the fantastic young children to our school one sunny morning in November. We discovered lots of connections to sisters, past pupils, teachers and one special Nana who was thrilled to see her grand daughter arrive into school. They enjoyed our large gym, the yard and garden, the fairy houses and finally our library. They met their sisters along the way and they were as good as gold. We are really looking forward to seeing them again in the summer term.

Science Week 2021
Science Week was celebrated from the 7th- 14th November and at Réalt na Mara GNS, it was no different. 5th and 6th classes had a visit from Christine from Anyone4science. She gave the girls a hands on view into the world of Forensic Science and they learned about Crime Scene Investigation. The girls became detectives for 90 mins and had to solve the crime using various clues and experiments.
Later that week, 5th class completed the experiment ‘How do you stand on balloons without bursting them?’ The girls made predictions but no one predicted what would happen next? Take a look at our pictures and see what occurred.
