The Stamullen Roundup – December 2021

By Grace Tierney

Santa is hoping to visit Stamullen this month **. He, and friends, will arrive in the village at 5p.m. on Sunday the 5th of December to say hello, or possibly Ho Ho Ho, to all the local children. They will be travelling by tractor to give the reindeers a rest as they train and prepare for Christmas Eve and the event will be in aid of Stamullen Tidy Towns.

The annual Whyte’s Christmas Draw is back. The draw, with all prizes from local businesses, gives all the proceeds to Stamullen Tidy Towns. The tickets are now on sale from Whyte’s or any of the business listed, with a book of three tickets costing you a fiver. The draw will take place in Whyte’s on the 23rd of December and as usual the prizes are great. Whyte’s are also planning their usual Trip to the Races at Leopardstown on Wednesday 29th.

Delighted to see that the flower display bicycle is back at Stedalt cross. The original bicycle which featured on the cover of the Meath Coaster earlier this year was stolen by somebody who didn’t want to share with the community, but a new one has been sourced and securely fastened in place with a fresh set of planting by Ciaran de Buitlear.

If you’re still hunting for Christmas gifts, don’t forget to try the annual handcrafts and artisan food fair in the covered courtyard called the Piper’s Garden, at the Seamus Ennis Centre in Naul. It’s on the 12th of December from 10:30-4:30p.m. and always has great stalls.

A total of €2,050 was raised by the Trócaire collection at St. Patrick’s church on the 6th and 7th of November to support their work during the humanitarian crisis in East Africa. Communion and Confirmation preparations have been postponed for the moment due to Covid. Confirmation will take place on Wednesday 9th of February 2022 in St. Mary’s Julianstown (subject to guidelines at that time). Date of First Holy Communion will be advised at a later date.

As we’re going to print on the weekend of the Late Late Toy Show (the unofficial start of the festive season) here’s wishing you and yours a happy and healthy Christmas. I hope you all get something special in your Christmas stocking and time with your loved ones.

** Please note changes to public health Covid 19 restrictions may affect events/services. Check with organisers.
