East Meath United – December 2021

Christmas Wish

We would like to wish all club members and their families a very Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. 2021 has been a marvellous year for our great club. All of our successes could not be achieved without the tremendous dedication of our coaches. Their work ethic and commitment to the club is immense. We want to express our gratitude to them and their families for the sacrifices they have made in 2021 for EMU, and we suppose, there is no harm in adding that we hope they are just as generous in 2022!! Finally, thanks to all our players for the wonderful entertainment they have provided to us during the year.

Girls Finals at Oriel Park

What an amazing day out for the EMU girls and their coaches, a day that made us all proud.

The Belles went out following an amazing winning streak to take on Glen Magic in Credit Union Under 11 Cup Final and what a match. Not only did they not let the occasion get to them or the big stage they came home with the silver wear.

The Villains took on Bellurgan Fc in the Credit Union Under 13 Shield Final but unfortunately it wasn’t their day. Despite not being the victors, the team showed great commitment and determination leaving everything out there and came off with their heads held high which has us all proud of you.

Under 14’s Girls National Cup

The Rebels and Villains once again combined forces and travelled the short distance to Drogheda Parkville to play Boyne Rovers who are league winners this year in the SFAI National cup round 2.

EMU started brightly and took a 2-0 lead thanks to some brilliant forward play controlled by Ellie McCormack and goals from Lara Synott and Orla Ivers. Rovers hit back taking the game to EMU and capitalising on some individual errors to take the half time lead of 3 – 2.

In the second half EMU rallied back with a top-drawer equaliser with Synott hitting a volley over the Boyne keeper. Not since Liverpool play Newcastle in the 90s has a game been more entertaining.

EMU took the lead with 10 mins to go but Boyne quickly equalised before a corner kick from our very own Lilly O’Neill went straight through with a Boyne defection bringing it to a EMU 5 – 4 win.

Epic game from two great teams.

A home game in the third round now awaits and a possible clash v Glen Magic or Parkview Summer Hill.
